I am thinking either the gorilla crab, hermits or some unknown hitch-hiker (worm). Possibly a red mithrax or two still in the tank Limpets (maybe key-hole and orange frilly limpets) (1) Gorilla crab (have been trying to catch him but no luck so far) They love low to medium light and flow in order to thrive in your aquarium. Mushroom corals are one of the easier to keep corals. Miscellaneous Hitchhikers from live rock: On this page you will find our wide assortment of mushrooms, such as yuma, ricordea, and rhodactis. (1) blue damsel (cant catch him to get him out.) I noticed a red mithrax crab hanging close by and I removed it.but the Ricordea continued to disappear. ![]() I have not seen anything eating them but something is. One completely disappeared off of a plug during the day time. I have lost 4 or 5 in the period of 3 days. Shortly there after my Ricordea starting disappearing. I didn't think much of it and chalked it up to a crab or something. About a week ago I noticed that the purple mat had been pulled off of one of the rocks. I had fragged some GSP and glued to some smaller pieces of rock a couple of weeks ago. The Ricordea have been in for approximately 6-9 months and have been doing great.many have split. The tank (BC29) has been up for almost a year. Sexual reproduction produces a larva called a planula which once on the seabed develops into a new individual.Something has decided to wreak havoc on my Ricordea over the last few days and I have not been able to identify the culprit. Ricordea yuma is also commonly known as Green Disc Anemone. Alternatively, particulates released from the foot can develop into a new specimen, which is called laceration. Ricordea yuma is the scientific name of Green Ricordea Mushrooms. Split or fission reproduction occurs when the coral splits along its mouth creating a clone. Ricordea florida feed both on the products of zooxanthellae, and on zooplankton or fish they catch with their tentacles, along with dissolved organic matter in the water.Īsexual reproduction can be accomplished by two mechanisms. ![]() The zooxanthellae also feed on the catabolites of the coral (especially phosphorus and nitrogen). These algae undergo photosynthesis producing oxygen and sugars which are then used by the coral. They are sure to stand out in any reef aquarium. They are known to inhabit the Atlantic Ocean, the Caribbean Sea and the Gulf of Mexico.Īs with other corals, Ricordea florida is host to a symbiotic algae called zooxanthellae. Orange Ricordea Mushrooms are a great beginners coral and will glow beautifully under actinic lighting. Ricordea florida is found in the interior of reefs, usually in shallow water, rocky areas, and pools. The colour of Ricordea florida depends on various factors, including the depth at which they live, the temperature, the season, and other environmental factors. These Ricordea are mostly solid blue/teal in color however they can develop multi-color tentacles across their face. The tips of the tentacles and the mouth may be one or more different colours. STOCK-blue-ricordea-florida-mushroom Blue Ricordea Florida Mushroom 37.50 50.00 Ricordea florida are one of the most recognizable species to come out of the Caribbean. The fleshy body and tentacles can be found in a variety of colours, including purple, orange, green, blue and yellow. Ricordea florida reaches 7.5 cm in diameter. The stinging ability of this species is lower than in most corals. Confused as to the subtle difference between a basic Ricordea mushroom and Yuma variant. The sting is used to subdue prey to make it more easily ingested via the mouth, or as a defensive mechanism to evade enemies. These mouths are centered amid short rounded tentacles bearing cnidocytes, whose sting contains paralytic neurotoxins. The apical end is the oral disk which functions as one or more mouths. Now there is just a bit of flesh holding it together at one end. The basal end resembles a flat disk that functions as a foot. The largest of the mushrooms started to open its mouth a few days ago and it just keeps getting bigger. ![]() The body of the coral is small and cylindrical. ![]() Ricordea florida is a coral without a skeleton, having the same internal anatomical structure as corals of the order Scleractinia. Due to their bright pigmentation and fluorescence under ultraviolet light, Ricordea florida is very popular in hobby saltwater aquariums. Ricordea florida is a species of coral of the family Ricordeidae and the order Corallimorpharia, whose members are also called false corals. Heteranthus floridus (Duchassaing & Michelotti, 1860) Ricordia mushrooms are very popular anemone corals in reef tanks because they are easy to find, and they are easy to care for.
